Terms of Service // Privacy Notice
I’m a human 🙋🏻♂️and (I presume) you are too 🤖so here’s a human description of exactly what’s going on when you use this site. By continuing to use the site you agree to the following terms of service. If you do not agree with the terms please refrain from using the website ⛔️.
Your Personal Data 💾
I collect no personal information about you without your consent. I collect anonymised analytics data to help improve the features of the site (see Cookies below) and I may collect data like your name and email address, if you give them to me (see Email & Communication below).
- I use Google and Squarespace Analytics to track anonymised usage data about anyone who visits the site. This lets me see things like which pages are being visited the most or which products people might be buying. Ultimately I use this data to improve the experience of using the site, for example if I find that there’s a particular page the gets a lot of clicks but then people immediately leave it there must be something wrong with that page, so I can go in and fix it to hopefully make the experience of using the site better for you.
- Advertising & Conversion Tracking (see below)
Advertising & Conversion Tracking 📺
Running a small, 1 person business is tough! I need to be able to get the word out to potential customers that might find my content useful and one of the most effective ways to do that is via advertising. Currently I advertise on 2 platforms; Facebook and Google (very infrequently). In order to better understand whether my advertising is working or not I utilise something called 'Conversion Tracking'. This tells me exactly how effective my advertising is and allows me to make informed decisions about how I advertise.
Here's how it works. I place a small piece of code on my website called a 'pixel' which is linked to the advertising platform (let's use Facebook as an example). When you click on one of my ads on Facebook a small file is downloaded to your system that says that you clicked on the ad. If you then follow the ad through to my website and take a certain action, let's say making a purchase, then Facebook can see that and tells me that 'Person X clicked on your ad on Facebook and then made a purchase on your website'. This event reveals no personally identifiable information, just that someone clicked on the ad and that someone made a purchase (or whichever action I wanted you to take). That way I can see exactly how effective my advertising is, for example how many purchases are the result of a certain ad, which tells me whether I should keep spending money on that advertisement or whether I'm wasting my time (and money)!
I retain none of the information in this process, it's all managed by the advertiser (i.e. Facebook) and you should be able to manage what kinds of ads, or whether or not you want to see ads at all on that particular platform.
Email & Communication ✉️
There are 2 ways in which I might obtain your email address and use it to contact you.
The first is if you opt in to my mailing list via any of the opt in forms, which you’ll find at the bottom of most pages, as a popup the first time you visit the site and on the dedicated Mailing List page. These email addresses are stored on Mailchimp which I use to manage my mailing list and send emails. All of these forms should also confirm your willingness to receive email communication by sending you a confirmation email. You will always find an Unsubscribe link or a link to Update Your Information at the bottom of any email I send you from Mailchimp.
The second way I might obtain your email address is when you make a purchase or free download. In order for Gumroad, the store provider I use, to send you the purchase receipt and download link they need your email address. This will add you to a list of previous customers that is stored in my Gumroad account. I can then use this list to send you emails. At present Gumroad provides no way for you to opt out from being added to this list (although I believe they are working on adding this functionality) however you will always find an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any mail from Gumroad.
On this site you’ll find several links that might point to external websites. I obviously try to send you to links that I think are appropriate or useful but I can in no way be sure that the content at those links will always stay the same or that the additional content you might find at those links is appropriate. As such I cannot be held responsible for anything resulting from the use of an external link found on this site.
