EARTH is a drum machine like to no other. Using synthesis EARTH lets you create drum sounds completely from scratch without samples which makes the sounds you create infinitely flexible and transformable. EARTH is also fully compatible with the Ableton Push. You really have to try it see what its all about - click the 'Free Demo' link below to try out a limited free version of EARTH.

The most common approach to creating electronic drum kits involves multiple drum samples - recordings of real drum kits or hardware drum machines. The problem with this approach is that you are limited to the inherent quality of the samples, sure you can adjust things like the envelope of the sound or maybe add some kind of EQ or filter, but its very difficult to change the inherent quality of the sound. Enter drum synthesis. 🤘🏻 🎛
Using drum and percussion synthesis allows you to create drum hits completely from scratch and gives you complete control of the pitch, timbre and tonal characteristics of your sounds.
EARTH leverages the power of drum and percussion synthesis to let you create your own unique drum sounds and if at this stage you’re thinking this all sounds a little too complex, don’t worry! EARTH is setup using cleverly assigned Macros to give you direct access to the most important controls so you don’t have to think about the finer details of percussion synthesis.
EARTH vs DRM CIRCTS
When you buy EARTH you also get access to individual DRM CIRCTS. These are the individual drum synthesizers used in the EARTH rack. They allow you to pick and choose which drum modules you use and even allow you to mix and match EARTH modules with regular, sample based Drum Racks. Simply drag and drop the particular DRM CIRCT onto an individual Drum Rack Pad as you would a sample.

EARTH is designed to feel like hardware 🎛 🎚 and in fact it works beautifully when paired with a MIDI controller, especially the Ableton Push. Because each drum hit has 8 available Macros, any MIDI controller with 8 knobs or encoders that auto-maps to Ableton Live will give you hands on control of your drum sounds. Enabling the Auto-select option in your Drum Rack will allow you to instantly adjust whichever drum sound you’re currently playing.
You’ll notice that most of the controls in EARTH don’t give you specific values and instead present a generic 0 - 127 value. This allows you to stop worrying about the exact settings of your controls and focus on what they sound like, much more like a hardware instrument that doesn’t rely on a screen.
I built EARTH because it filled a gap that existed in my personal workflow - I wanted versatile drum sounds and wanted to be able to get the hands on, ‘alive’ feel of hardware. I was also tired of endlessly browsing through drum samples to find ‘the right’ sample so EARTH is designed to simplify the process of finding your drum sound. I’ve found it incredibly useful in my own work and it features on just about every track I make - I hope you find it useful too!
BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE AMAZING VST DRUM SYNTHS?
Indeed there are some incredible plugins out there that do similar things to EARTH but I personally found them to be far more complex than I needed and their integration with Ableton Live frankly sucked - you’d spend more time mapping controls than making drum sounds!
Now I don’t want to hate on those plugins (which I won’t name) because there are some truly amazing ones out there but EARTH is built to make drum synthesis simple. It also integrates with Ableton Live in a way that is fun, versatile and easy to use.
I wanted to make EARTH relatively affordable - many of the drum synth VSTs out there will cost upwards of $100 whereas EARTH will only set you back the price of about 4 or 5 beers / whatever else your like to drink! Regardless of that, I did spend quite a lot of time working on EARTH and refining the control choices, values and layouts so I really
appreciate your support by paying for it! ❤️🙏🏻
I hope you enjoy using EARTH!
There are 2 versions of EARTH available:
- EARTH FREE: A free version with limited modules (KCK, SNR, 808 CLP, HAT) laid out in an Ableton Drum Rack
- (To download EARTH Free click here and enter '0' in the price field to download for free).
- EARTH x DRM CIRCTS: The full EARTH + individual DRM CIRCT modules that you can drag and drop onto a Drum Rack to create your own custom layouts, including combining with existing sample based Drum Racks.
The individual modules are as follows.
- KCK - A kick drum synthesizer
- SNR - A snare drum synthesizer
- CLP - A hand clap synthesizer
- 808 CLP - An 808 style hand clap synthesizer
- SHKR - A shaker synthesizer
- HAT - A hi-hat synthesizer
- TOM - These are getting fairly obvious
- PRC - So I'll stop explaining them...
- CBELL - And just let you...
- CYM - Work it out for yourself 😉
PRO TIP: EARTH sounds really great if you stick Live's Glue Compressor right after it, perhaps with a bit of nasty parallel compression and then run it through a Saturator to get some nice warm analogue crunch.
WHAT'S IN THE DOWNLOAD?
- The Drum Rack and DRM CRCTS come as .adg files which can be dragged and dropped directly into Live from your computers file browser but you can also add them to your User Library or a custom folder in Live's browser to easily load them from within Live.
- There is a Readme file included with each download to help you get setup quickly.
